• Listen / Podcast

Listen is a podcast series by the #INeverAskForIt Mission.

What is Listen?
Each episode is recorded in group settings across sites and geographies, in the form of 'listening circles'. It brings together survivors of sexual violence, you and me, across varying degrees and identities to speak, be heard and believed. Listen has been recorded via workshops with colleges, allies, strangers and more.

Why Listen ? The podcast is an invitation to listen, and to process internalised victim blame and shame. Listen to build connection and solidarity. Listen to Listen , to own the words #INeverAskForIt

How to Listen: If you feel triggered at any point, step away, and come back to it when you feel ready. You might want to listen to Listen with a circle of six friends or allies.   We hope this podcast offers feeling not alone and solidarity. Listening can trigger memory.
How does memory serve us ?
What does listening in give rise to ?

The #INeverAskForIt mission works with personal memory. It hopes to offer a space to keep your memory safe and in solidarity with another. Remembering can be painful. And it’s important that we remember when you feel ready to. Notes on listening, memory, remembering , from members of our community below.

* We are developing a toolkit for our listeners and your responses to the Listen podcast via the form below , will enable the making of the programme.

Building our capacity to listen.
What happens when we listen deeply ?
What memory does it trigger IN WHEN YOU HEAR SOMEONE SAY “I NEVER ASK FOR IT” ?

If this surfaces a memory for you, and if you would like to share it

Because memory lives inside of me, to remember on my own terms is to claim my power over the lived experiences that form my memory. To remember deliberately, slowly, gently is to unravel and rebuild. It is an act of commemorating my strength and to pay homage to my past self. I remember to feel gratitude for my body, for its resilience and fortitude. To share a memory of violence is to take a moment where I felt deeply alone and create connection through the act of feeling heard; through the resonance that others echo back to me. It is to take something that happened to me and find a way to exercise power over how it lives in my memory.
