“I believe in a society where consent and choice are the foundational pillars in creating safer public spaces. The mission acknowledges that it is important to record public memory to make a systemic change which I think is essential.
I look forward to learning from my fellow sheroes! As well as understand how conversations around harassment and violence can be had in a safer way.
I am interning at Blank Noise because I want to learn to confront my own reservations and discomfort in an environment that stimulates growth everyday.”

ANNIE LANGFORD

The #INeverAskForIt mission speaks to me because….
I believe that I’m living in a patriarchal system that’s designed to silence and shame myself and others who dare speak about their oppression. There are many excuses for the perpetuation of rape culture, survivors’ clothing being one narrative that many of us have internalized. I still find that people believe sexual violence is uncommon, either because they have normalized/not fully processed their experiences, or because they are cisgender males who haven’t experienced much sexual violence themselves. I resonate with the vision #INeverAskForIt creates of garments united to visually show the prevalence of these occurrences, and testimonials to open people’s minds to the realities of sexual violence and how it occurs.
What are you looking forward to the most in the internship:
I’m looking forward to learning about how to bring people together and open dialogues about some of the most difficult topics to articulate. While combatting sexual violence has been a passion of mine for many years now and I’ve since been having difficult conversations about it, many of those conversations have been with myself and close friends. I’m excited to meet with other Action Sheroes/Heroes/Theyroes who share my interests and can open my mind to other ways of thinking about sexual violence.
What is your expected learning outcome from this internship:
I’m hoping to build my comfort and strength in publicly talking about sexual violence, through working with other leaders who have chosen to live unapologetically. I expect to develop more tools to understand sexual violence, and ways of addressing it in everyday life. Developing my own style and capacity for community organizing is also a priority, as I feel I have a lot to learn from the thriving Blank Noise community. I also hope to learn from comparing different manifestations of patriarchal norms internationally.
