Assistant to Director/ Artist & Social Entrepreneur
Jasmeen Patheja is an award-winning artist in public service. She holds a unique position of being Director of Blank Noise where she works in the capacity of Artist as Facilitator. Patheja is also a Social Entrepreneur. She builds ideas for public action committed to ending violence against women, girls, and all persons. Patheja is a public speaker; she has spoken extensively on violence against women and girls, gender-based violence, and victim blame. She works for the right of women, girls, and all persons to be free from fear and defenceless.

This includes research, outreach and building student communities on campuses across India. Blank Noise has been building the #INeverAskForIt mission on campuses. Blank Noise interns and the team have built research on student-led protests on campus, in response to victim blame and the systemic abuse of power surrounding sexual assault. This first phase of research comprises student interviews, and research towards an upcoming publication and guides phase 2 of the Action Shero Campus Network initiative.

Blank Noise seeks a Programme Associate to work on our #INeverAskForIt Campus Programme: Action Shero Campus Network . The Programme Associate will manage the programme, and also contribute to ongoing research, oversee projects within the programme, including internships, and assist in building community.

Join the Blank Noise Internship Programme

Blank Noise offers limited paid internships towards building the #INeverAskForIt mission on campuses. We are working to end the climate of victim blame , patriarchy and sexual harassment across spaces including college campuses. We are working with the student communities to build exchange, new solidarities and co learning. The project is also an invitation to imagine what the future campus could look like. Each internship is for a total period of 3 months and can be done remotely in the pandemic.

  1. Campus Patriarchy Data

A compilation and analysis of hostel rules and dress codes amongst 100 colleges in India.

The research criteria includes- The colleges should be both government and private. The colleges should be both all girls and across gender. The colleges should be in both rural and urban India. The Campus Patriarchy Data should be a just representation.All of the research will be added to a Campus Patriarchy Data, for public knowledge. The intern’s efforts will include research, mapping, digital storytelling. Additionally, the intern could also examine and research the shifting history of dress codes and hostel timings in India.

Intern applicants are required to submit a 250 word proposal for a media/research or both outcome from the internship engagement. The research could conclude with forms of publications including a data visualisation map, documents as evidence, audio podcast and interviews, academic paper. We see the internship process as a form of community building, i.e. connecting with students on campuses, and building new solidarities. 

The intern will be recognised as one of the collaborators in the long process of building the Campus Patriarchy Data project within the I Never Ask For It mission. This is an ongoing collaborative research project, built and led by multiple collaborators, mostly through internship and classroom engagement. The intern is required to step in the project for a period of three months and build it.


2) Campus Climates

Campus Climates is an ongoing research and community building project that documents student-led protests or “campus uprisings”, in response to victim blame, rape culture, and patriarchy on campus, across regions and geographies. The project is an ongoing effort to recognise a global and local climates of resistance to sexual harassment and sexual violence on campus. The research spotlights the shifting history of campus climate up to the current date. 


The research and community building criteria for this internship project includes-

Identifying & updating student-led protests in response to patriarchy.
Creating secondary data based on publicly available information via news reports. 
Creating primary knowledge in close association with the persons who led/witnessed or participated in protests that are being narrated.

Research includes gathering forms of evidence, documents and/or visuals obtained from the movements themselves. 
This project is also a method to build a community of student allies. As an intern, your role is to be the researcher- story gatherer. Student leaders, protest witnesses and protest participants are the storytellers. The storyteller is neither the subject nor an informant. This is a collaborative process, a process of building Action Sheroes. 
The research should be inclusive of caste, sexuality, region (rural and urban), religion, and expand on the language and tones of dissent.

Previous Action Shero Intern Aditi Mazumdar has worked on documenting 20 student-led protests/ movements. Her contribution has informed an upcoming podcast series called Campus Climates. Your work will contribute extensively to the podcast series.
